Diamonds in the Rough

Here is the start of my Diamond Fantasy Shawl. I have joined the DF KAL, officially starting to knit mine yesterday on May 1st. I swatched on April 30. I started with size 5 Denise needles, and felt it was too open. I seem to knit loosely and didn’t want to strain myself trying to tighten up. I didn’t have a US 4 ciruclar so I got out my US 3 Addi Turbo circ. It seems to be working out ok. I can knit loosely and the lace looks pretty good to me. I’m such a novice with lace though, so I hope my judgement isn’t wrong.
I’m not yet sure how big I will make it. I have 5 hanks of Koigu KPPPM (875 yards) so I should have enough for as big as I want it to be. The colors of this Koigu are wonderfully cheerful. I plan on wearing this with casual cloths, jeans etc. and having it be for fun. Maybe I’ll make the DF in a more sedate color sometime to wear for dress up, although if I ever get my hands on a copy of Three-cornered and Long Shawls by Sigridur Halldórsdóttir from Schoolhouse Press I may have to make Hyrna Herborgar. Check out the beautiful one at KnitterNutter. I even happen to have a hank of Shimmer just hanging around…

I have that 3-cornered book - very nice. Several I’d like to try.
I happened to check the Harlot site almost the minute it was posted and you weren’t linked yet so I left a comment with your url. Steph has since updated it - hope you get lots of well-deserved blog traffic!
Hi Katie! How’s your bag coming?

It looks beautiful! I haven’t tried lace yet, although it is on my list (which is incredibly long! lol) of things to try. Can’t wait to see how it turn out!

I just stumbled across here from the Sivia Harding Knits list and wanted to tell you that your DF start in Koigu looks great. I’ll be watching your progress as I also have 5 hanks of Koigu that I am thinking of making the DF shawl from and would love to see how far your yarn takes you. I think it’s plenty. I’m going to cast on the scarf size with a different yarn though - I only have one hank of that and it will make a perfect scarf size DF - I hope.
